Institutional Biosafety Committee

Overview

The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) at Lake Forest College oversees research and instructional activities that involve biological materials with potential risks to human health, animals, plants, or the environment. The committee reviews proposed work to ensure that biological research and teaching activities are conducted safely and in compliance with applicable federal guidelines, institutional policies, and best practices for biosafety.

The IBC helps promote responsible research by evaluating risk levels, appropriate containment procedures, and laboratory practices associated with the use of biological agents, recombinant or synthetic nucleic acids, and other regulated materials.
