Courtney Joseph named education director at Haitian American Museum of Chicago
Associate Professor of History and African American Studies Courtney Joseph was appointed Director of Education and Public Engagement at the Haitian American Museum of Chicago (HAMOC), it was announced recently. She will begin this role on September 2, 2026.
A historian, educator, researcher, and longtime collaborator with the Museum, Joseph brings nearly a decade of experience and a deep commitment to public history. community engagement, and culturally responsive education to this new role.
While continuing to teach at the College, Josoph also will lead the Museum’s educational and public engagement initiatives while helping strengthen its public identity, expand its audience, and develop new partnerships with schools. community organizations, cultural institutions, and other audiences. Her work will include education, marketing and communications, and research. Additionally, she will be working on branding the museum and continuing an oral history project.
“I am absolutely thrilled to step into this role with an institution that I have had the privilege of collaborating with for many years,” Joseph said. “This museum holds an important place in our community and the city, and I’m excited to help expand its educational reach, deepen its public engagement, and bring even more of its stories to life.”
Founded in 2012, HAMOC’s mission is to promote and preserve Haitian art, culture, history, and community in Chicago and beyond.
