Senior Accountant
Lake Forest College invites applications for the role of Senior Accountant. The senior accountant will play a crucial role in the college’s financial reporting and accounting function. The scope of responsibilities includes, but will not be limited to, aiding in the monthly financial close activities, accounts payable, employee expense reimbursement process, and identifying opportunities for process enhancement and efficiency gains.
The successful candidate will possess analytical and problem-solving skills, is well organized, and can manage multiple priorities.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, and entering transactions.
- Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
- Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts, preparing a trial balance, and reconciling bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts.
- Prepares monthly reporting materials, including variance analysis for management.
- Partners with other departments, including Human Resources on audits and other projects.
- Provides backup for the payroll process.
- Supports the annual financial statement audit process.
- Manages student worker(s).
- Handles special projects or ad-hoc requests
Qualifications
Requirements
- BA/BS degree in Accounting or related field of study.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including strong proficiency with Excel
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- CPA or MBA
- Previous experience in higher education or similar field
- Experience with grant accounting
