The Career Advancement Center’s “Pathways to Successful Careers in Health Care” event provided students with the chance to meet with industry professionals to explore their career options.

“We wanted to show students the wide variety of career paths available to them within health care,” Career Advancement Center Assistant Director Colleen Monks said. “Luckily, we have many alumni and Forester Career Network volunteers ready to help students sort through their options and determine which pathways will be the best fit for them.”

The event kicked off with each health care professional providing an introduction and background on their career before breaking into small-group discussions. Students had the opportunity to speak with up to three professionals based on their area of interest.

Professionals came from a wide range of health care areas, including a primary care physician, physical therapist, hospital manager, clinical researcher, social worker, veterinarian, nurse practitioner, and professionals in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.  Many of the experts were Lake Forest College alumni and Forester Career Network volunteers.

“The small group format of the event really facilitated productive conversations and helped students to clarify or solidify their career plans within health care,” Monks said. “Overall, it was a huge success.”
