Taking the classroom digital
Assistant Professor of Religion Ben Zeller leads a project that uses technology in a student-centered classroom.
Sponsored by a grant from the Associated Colleges of the Midwest, the project will allow Zeller and religion colleagues from two other ACM colleges to attend a forthcoming religious studies “THAT Camp”—a hands-on conference based on classroom technology and digital humanities. The information gathered at the conference will be used to better engage students through social media.
“I use a blogging exercise with my students to help them prepare for class discussions, explains Zeller. “I call it ‘student-centered’ learning, since it focuses on their interests and how they relate to the material, which I draw out through the blogs and then class discussion.”
The grant will pay for participation in the THAT Camp and a small stipend for technology purchases.
