Several Lake Forest College students were guests at a fundraising gala for Bright Hope International. In attendance were Akua Agyei ’15, Ariane Uwamba ’15, and Mbakisi Gopolang ’14, each of whom conducted research for Bright Hope on savings groups and private school funding models in poverty-stricken areas. Their efforts offered guidance to the organization for improved poverty alleviation programs. Also attending were Marcel Tatum ’17 and Sihle Tsabedze ’15.

This event, with keynote speaker former First Lady Laura Bush, was held to raise funds for an initiative to advance Bright Hope’s efforts to reduce extreme poverty. The plan is to begin the transformational process for 50 impoverished communities and set them on a path to self-sustainability.  Bright Hope works through in-country churches to serve the extreme poor around world with programs for student feeding, orphan care, human trafficking, micro-loans, job training, and spiritual guidance.

Les Dlabay, Professor of Business, serves on the board of directors of Bright Hope.  His involvement with the organization enhances the academic experiences of students with class speakers, field trips, summer research projects, and internships.
