Lake Forest Lyrica opens eighteenth season with the Newberry Consort
Newberry Consort
Please join Lake Forest College on Sunday, October 2 at 3:00 p.m. for the first concert of the 2011-12 Lyrica season. The highly acclaimed chamber music series begins its eighteenth season with a performance by the Newberry Consort.
The Newberry Consort has been delighting audiences for nearly three decades. The Consort, an early-music, original-instrument chamber ensemble affiliated with the Newberry Library Center for Renaissance Studies, brings early music to the general public through performances, recordings, and related educational activities. Directed by David Douglass and early music diva Ellen Hargis, the ensemble plumbs the Newberry Library’s vast music collection and assembles a star-studded roster of local and international artists to present world-class performances of music from the 13th to the 18th centuries. The Consort is the longest running and most successful period instrument early music ensemble in the Chicago area. The group serves as an ensemble-in residence at both the University of Chicago and Northwestern University and has recorded several critically acclaimed albums over the past two decades for Harmonia Mundi and Noyse Productions.
The series continues on Sunday, November 20 with Axiom Brass performing a musical voyage through the ages with works by Lutoslawski, Ewald, Piazzolla, J.S. Bach, and others. On Sunday, February 26, Quintet Attacca will perform “Reflections of Paris.” The Lyrica season will close on Sunday, April 22 with Third Coast Percussion performing “American Masters: Works by Owen Clay, John Cage, and David Skidmore.”
All concerts are held in the Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel on the campus of Lake Forest College.
Single tickets for all concerts are $15/$5 for students with ID, free to Lake Forest College faculty, staff, and students. A subscription to all four concerts is $50. For more information and to order tickets, please call 847-735-6170.
