Going for the gold
Robert Baade
The Washington Post and Mapping Ignorance website focused on the economics of the Olympics in developing countries, based on a paper co-authored by A.B. Dick Professor of Economics Robert Baade.
Baade’s 18-page paper, “Going for the Gold: The Economics of the Olympics,” which he co-authored with Victor Matheson of College of the Holy Cross, was originally published in the Journal of Economic Perspective.
Their published findings prompted Mapping Ignorance, a website dedicated to scientific divulgation, to post “The economics of hosting the Olympic Games,” and The Washington Post’s Robert Samuelson to write “The Olympic sinkhole.”
